Grandpa walks the last mile of a 6 mile run

Sawyer Loop Rd. Training Run by addickens at Garmin Connect - Details

Well, after yesterday's bout with senility, I have been called Grandpa, which I think is pretty cold even considering the fact that I live in an old folks home. Ever hopeful that I could get past the name calling, today I headed out for a training run on the Sawyer Loop Rd. route that I completed last Sunday. As I started running, Mary Chapin Carpenter was singing to me and I still remembered to start my watch.

I am currently reading The New Rules of Lifting and read a section yesterday where the author made a short reference to sprinting. I thought maybe I would throw a short sprint into today's run. The point the author was making was to not sprint without warming up first so I figured that maybe I would pick the pace up when I made the turn onto Sawyer Loop Road. By the time I made the turn I had concluded that maybe today was not the day for a sprint. It turned out that the wind was out of the east so this was a pretty tough section of the run.

When I turned onto Clark Rd. I was pretty beat. By now I was wondering if my Sunday Afternoons Adventure Hat in white may be holding in body heat. I think I will switch back to plain old sunscreen and maybe add more of an electrolyte replacement such as GU to see if I have more success. I plodded along a while on Clark Rd. until just past 5 miles when I threw in the towel and walked the rest of the way home.

So, let the name calling continue. I know it is harsh but I have proved that I deserve it.

Another nice run, Gramps. I doubt that awesome looking adventure hat did much to dispel your new moniker. :) Seriously though, as soon as your heat lets up a little you'll be going farther and longer. Save the fartleks for the cooler days.
