Celery Fields with Marathon Man - 5 miles - 2-1-2013

Celery Fields with Marathon Man - 5 miles - 2-1-2013

This morning I had the pleasure of giving Jerry Dunn, America's Marathon Man, a tour of the Celery Fields park in northeast Sarasota, one of my favorite places for a run. Little did I know that Jerry is a proponent of, and wonderful advertisement for, the Jeff Galloway running system that includes short walk breaks every couple of miles or so during a run. What a great idea.

Additionally, as we were nearing the end of the run, when we got to the mountain bike hill, as we hit the upward grade, Jerry says, I walk up hills. It was a pretty quick walk just the same but up we went at a comfortable climb. As we crested the summit, I sure felt a lot better than if I had leaned into the hill and pushed all the way to the top. I think Jerry is on to something.

Jerry is also the founder and promoter for several long distance running events including the Deadwood Mickelson Trail Marathon in South Dakota. Hello Bucket List!!!

OK, today's run started at first light and covered a total of 5 miles to include parts of the park on both the north and south sides of Palmer Boulevard. Low and behold, even just past 7AM we ran into a gaggle of bird watchers. I say those bird watchers are a strange flock.

Way to go Allan! Very nice conversational pace. The Deadwood marathon looks awesome and very scenic. I'd love to try it myself some day.
