I celebrated National Running Day yesterday with my friends at Jacksonville Running Company by participating in a fun run fund raiser for Marathon High. Yes, I am in the group photo.
We ran a nice little out and back on Gate Parkway for a total of 3 miles. I believe some considered running farther but pizza from Mellow Mushroom was waiting back at the store.
In case you have not heard of Marathon High, it is a regional group that mentors teenagers during the process of coaching them to complete the Half Marathon at the 26.2 with Donna National Marathon to Finish Breast Cancer. The group included several teachers from the schools that sponsor the program. Many of these teachers work all day in the school and then after school become unpaid coaches for the students in the Marathon High program. Also in attendance were representatives from the 26.2 with Donna Marathon.
Back at the store, as the pizza boxes were nearing empty, there was a drawing for some prizes that included Marathon High apparel and Jeff Galloway training gear. I walked away from the drawing empty handed but did secure a potential invitation
to visit and run with one of the Marathon High training groups next October. For this I call National Running Day 2013 a huge success.

Nice run Allan! It took me a few seconds but I finally found your mug in the back peering around some dude with a crazy looking goat. Sorry you didn't win any prizes. That's unusual for you.
